Over the first 28 years of the church’s history a list of men pastored Saint Chapel COGIC. Evangelist H.J. Simon came to Saint Chapel Church of God in Christ on October 20, 1963 and was appointed as the Pastor January 8, 1964. Pastor Simon brought with him his lovely wife, Mother Emma Simon. Years later the church constructed a new edifice on 1680 Sweat Road in Silsbee, TX under the leadership of Pastor H.J. Simon. The church went on in the strength of the Lord with souls being saved, backsliders being reclaimed, bodies being healed, and the dead being raised under the leadership of Pastor Horace J. Simon. Pastor Simon served for thirty-two years until his untimely death on August 28, 1995.
On May 18, 1998 the late Bishop C.L. Bryant appointed Elder Daryl Gilbert Sr. as pastor of Saint Chapel COGIC. Pastor Daryl Gilbert Sr. immediately began working to improve the physical and spiritual health of the church. Shortly after his appointment in 1998 Pastor Gilbert was led to rename Saint Chapel Church of God in Christ to Simon’s Memorial Church of God in Christ in honor of Pastor H.J. Simon.
Under the leadership of Pastor Daryl Gilbert Sr. the membership continues to grow spiritually and in numbers. We are blessed with the benefits of a victorious past to act as encouragement toward new victories in Christ. We see ourselves in the future, and we see even better days ahead.
